The Showrunner Reveals He Has an Idea of How Pluribus Might Finish... Currently.

The creative mastermind could not have predicted that his new science-fiction series would turn into a cultural phenomenon. “I am so grateful to the audience,” he states. “I was surprised by the show being as passionately debated as it is, and it makes me deliriously happy.”

With the first season of the popular sci-fi show wrapping up—and Season 2 already in development—the creative team recently discussed the audience reaction and whether it will shape the narrative path of Pluribus.

Regarding the Overwhelming Fan Response

Anyone might to get sidetracked by the rampant praise and online debates surrounding Pluribus. He is making a conscious effort to ignore the noise.

“It's like being constantly eating something incredibly sweet and being laughing uncontrollably,” he says. “It's amazing, but I get wind of it from others, and that's intentional. Never in my life Googled myself, nor do I ever intend to. Not because I don't care. It's a bottomless pit I know I would disappear down and then I'd be living in squalor from the hardware store and I'd rarely emerge from my living room.”

Despite Gilligan’s best intentions, there’s no escaping the immensely favorable response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to acknowledge it humbly and try not to let it alter the course of the show.

“We make no attempt to change the plot,” says co-executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The narrative we craft is not changed by audience chatter.”

“It's wiser to keep our noses to the grindstone,” he chimes in.

The Central Mystery: Does Vince Gilligan See the Conclusion of Pluribus?

Given that the writers are not listening by public opinion, can we assume they have mapped out how Pluribus will reach its endpoint? In short yes… sort of.

“We have some interesting ideas about how the story could conclude,” Gilligan reveals. “yet we stand ready to abandon a decent plan for a superior concept. This approach has served us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we get a better idea and I suspect we'll be doing that.”

Alternatively, if plans fall through, Gordon Smith has a rather amusing idea to use as a backup.

“I constantly suggest that the entire story is inside a snow globe, and that we'll pull back at the end and the characters are inside it,” Smith quips, “but nobody's taking me up on that.”

Alternatively, why not reference the legendary finales?

“I'd love for Carol to awaken next to Bob Newhart,” Gilligan says with a smile.

Pluribus is streaming now on Apple TV.
