Igor Jesus found the net on two occasions as the Premier League side concluded the group stage of the European competition with a convincing triumph against their Hungarian visitors at the City Ground.

Forest had already secured a place in the next qualifying round and entered this game with a small chance of making the top eight, although they needed other matches to go their way.

That did not happen but this confident display will give the supporters belief that their side can navigate the two-legged play-off to advance to the last 16.

Kristoffer Zachariassen struck the post with a headed effort inside the first 10 minutes for the visitors – who are managed by former Tottenham striker Robbie Keane – but it was all Forest from that point forward.

They opened the scoring in the early stages when a delivery from midfield was deflected in by Bence Otvos and added a second shortly after – Jesus squeezing a shot in at the far post for his 10th goal of the campaign.

The forward's eleventh goal arrived early in the second half when he made a perfectly-timed run to break clear of the defence and then drive an effort beyond the shot-stopper.

That goal ended the visitors' aspirations of mounting a recovery and instead Forest scored again when the impressive James McAtee scored from a spot-kick after a infringement by the unfortunate Bence Otvos inside the penalty area on the winger.

Europe's secondary club competition qualifying round draw is scheduled on Friday, 30 January (midday UK time), where Forest could be drawn against either the Turkish side or Panathinaikos.

"It's more than the result, there was that feel about it. I want these players to do well as a unit, the whole squad," said manager Sean Dyche.

"This is another stride forward, but it is a good one."

Team Breakdown: Jesus Catches Eye as Recent Arrival Watches On

Jesus has been a revelation for Nottingham Forest in European competition this season with half of his eleven strikes scored in the tournament.

This double also means he has got three goals in his previous two outings and the threat of competition for his place in the forward line could be spurring him on.

Italian forward Lorenzo Lucca was last week brought in temporarily and he was watching this game from the directors' box.

This development may well have been on Jesus' thoughts as he was outstanding against Ferencvaros, producing two superb goals and overall being a menace to the visitors' defence with his speed and movement.

The forward was not the only one in impressing, with James McAtee producing his best performance in a Forest jersey since joining from Manchester City in the previous transfer window, while Dan Ndoye also impressed.

These encouraging performances will give Forest some fresh hope as they switch focus to pulling further away from the bottom three when they welcome their London rivals on Sunday.

"The minimum requirement is a response," continued the manager.

"I've never questioned their work ethic or their dedication or honesty. It is just go and show your ability.

"James was very good and Dan Ndoye was super sharp. Jesus got another couple and these are positive indicators."
